JAPA MEDITATION

We practice and teach a sound based meditation called JAPA originating from eastern philosophy in India along with mindfulness and walking meditation.

What is Japa?

Japa is a word for the repetition of a mantra. This type of meditation has its origins in India and it involves the use of mantras from Hindu, Buddhist, Christian and Sufi traditions. The Sanskrit word mantra comes from man (mind) and tra (to liberate) which means that mantra practice can help us to free the mind of obstacles and can protect the mind from negative influences.

The sounds created by mantras shift our mental, physical, emotional and spiritual states. Negative thinking starts to leave creating space for a new, more positive outlook. Old hidden patterns become visible and so they are easier to transform. Life starts to flow. Japa meditation creates a positive feeling in the body and mind, bringing us into a state of balance. In the course of chanting mantras the thoughts slow down, the mind naturally focuses and the body relaxes. It is a powerful and quick way to heal, find peace, improve sleep patterns, reduce stress and increase overall quality of life.

Japa Meditation is a very simple and useful practice to release stress from both surface and deeper currents. It’s for those of us with busy lives that do not have a possibility of retreating from 'normal life' for a longer period of time in order to expand our awareness and grow on mental, emotional and spiritual level.
